Public FMCSA carrier records. Free, open source, every field cited.

4,519,899 carriers indexed from the Company Census File (az4n-8mr2, updated 2026-10-21, sha256 73d4c5901abe8cdb…). Search covers active and pending carriers; inactive carriers are reachable by exact DOT or MC number.

What this is

A free, open-source index of US carrier records from FMCSA open data. There is no risk score and no subscription. Every field names the dataset it came from and when that dataset was last updated, so you can check any number yourself.

Why it can be trusted

No black box. Checks are published rules, not a model. Each returns pass, fail, or unknown — and unknown means the record does not contain the field, not that something is wrong.
Reproducible. Nightly snapshots are hashed and signed. The archive is public, and one command re-derives our numbers.
Honest about limits. A shared phone or address does not mean shared ownership. We publish the blocklist of values that cannot be used as evidence, with a reason for every entry.

Published findings

1,838 US carriers hold active common authority with no BIPD insurance on file — with the query, the datasets, and a downloadable CSV so you can regenerate the count.
